Raining… I mean Training in Portland

Despite the rain over the weekend, I still managed to sneak in a few kays while I was in Portland.

Just outside of town, there is a fantastic training loop that follows the coast line past Yellow Rock and the Cape Nelson lighthouse, before it loops back inland though the undulating farm land (Yellow Rock Loop).

The Yellow Rock loop also plays host to the infamous (un-official) handicap road race which is held Thursday nights where locals battle it to be king of the (Yellow) Rock. Unfortunitly there is no police escort or helicopter covering this “dangerous” non event, but I have heard a bird was kocked down once while they were riding, which might warrant the need for some police supervision.

Watch for the cows.

I must say, this circuit is really fun, it’s got some nice hills to keeps it interesting, great views of the coast and it’s long enough not to get too bored of it. I think I like circuits because you keep an eye on the lap times too see if your slacking off.

Bad photo of the coast line.
